About
For the Why
behind the movement project
Hi, I’m Immie — Founder of The Movement Project.
After Years of competing as a competitive cyclist, i had an accident which caused a debilitating chronic illness i have lived with for the past two years.
This experience shifted my relationship with movement.
recently, pilates has become a constant in my life, supporting my recovery, my strength, and my overall wellbeing.
Pilates is invaluable for every body, yet, its perception as being ‘female-only’ or ‘low-impact’ continues to limit its reach.
additionally, in an increasingly uncertain economic climate, i wanted to create a simple way for New ZEALANDERS to invest in their own wellbeing, whilst also giving back to those around them (at no extra cost).
the movement project exists to materialise that.
the movement project’s (TMP) name was adopted to convey the idea of forward progress.
to me, movement reflects inclusivity, emphasising that pilates is for every body regardless of age, gender, or ability, while also capturing the physical benefits: strength, mobility, alignment, and so much more.
on top of that, movement raises a double meaning — ‘movement for positive change’. this connects to the word ‘project’, which not only illuminates how TMP was developed as a student-led initiative for the NZ young enterprise scheme, but also promotes purpose and ongoing impact, reinforcing that TMP is not just a service but a youth endeavour with a social cause.
it is for this reason that the movement project will donate a 10% of every booking to the sir john kirwan foundation to support mental health fundraising in New Zealand!
